I know you don’t post spoilers in these reviews but I only just gloss it over mostly haha I’m still waiting for my library copy so I just check if you’re still reading it. Glad you are though!

It’s unfortunate when a series starts to go off the rails and drifts away from what originally lured you into it in the first place. I read/have read quite a few series, and I must say that I am disappointed 80% of the time with all books after the first in the series. The writing isn’t as sharp, the characters aren’t as defined or striking, or, like you said, there isn’t enough of what originally attracted me in the first place–too many new plot points, new characters, new side stories. It all detracts from the main focus that I loved best. I also imagine it’s very stressful writing a series, trying to make each book as good as the previous one, or better. This is why I’ll never write a series. 😀
