I always believed such things about YA too, that’s why I stayed away. I’m happy I didn’t actually check the genre before getting this book. I wouldn’t have bought it, if I had. I’ve now ordered one more 😁

Though, I suppose I should stop with that, as I’ve now read several YA books and really loved them. I think it depends on the quality of writing. For so long, I thought YA meant “sub-part writing” or “lackluster writing” because it was for a younger and therefore less nuanced audience. But some of the best writers I’ve found write YA, and their stories are just as gripping as adult novels. Some YA books can go pretty dark, too, which I am always surprised by. YA has come a long way since my day, and there are so many great options there now. I don’t particularly look for YA books now, but I also don’t automatically shy away from them anymore. I give them a chance as I would any other book.

Bone Gap sounds good, and what a beautiful cover!!! I like fairytales and magical realism, so this sounds like it might be of interest to me. I’ll give it a shot. 🙂
